Support and assistance

The Department of Building and Housing can give you advice about ways to sort out problems yourselves. We also have information on what the renting law (the Residential Tenancies Act) says about the problem.

If you cannot sort out an issue yourselves, we provide a mediation service to help landlords and tenants.

If that doesn’t work, we can tell you how the Tenancy Tribunal can help you. The Tenancy Tribunal is part of the Ministry of Justice.
