What do you think should be included in a retirement village disclosure statement?
Summary of submissions
16 June 2010
The Department of Building and Housing consulted on the style and content of disclosure statements for retirement villages.
The consultation found:
- the purpose of disclosure is not understood.
- the disclosure statement is not ‘fit for purpose’ and the information requirements under the current regime do not meet the Retirement Villages Act 2003 to ensure consumers are well informed regarding financial matters in retirement villages.
- there is too much information for intending residents to use it in choosing a village.
