Product certification - benefits
Product certification is designed to lift building quality and performance to achieve the aims of the Building Act 2004.
For manufacturers, suppliers, importers and marketers
Product certification will give confidence that their products or construction methods are code compliant. It will:
- provide a way to prove building products meet Building Code requirements - in particular, products that are innovative, relatively untried or new, or products with potentially significant consequences in the event of failure
- give confidence that a certified product or building method will be accepted nationally by all building consent authorities (BCAs)
- offer a marketing advantage - certified products are deemed to comply with the Building Code, they will be publicly registered, and can use the ‘CodeMark’ brand
- provide the opportunity to apply for product certification in both New Zealand and Australia.
For building consent authorities, designers, builders and consumers
Product certification will:
- streamline building consent and inspection processes
- ensure a building product or construction method conforms with the New Zealand Building Code
- ensure a building product or method is capable of performing as intended
- give access to a public register of all certified building products and building methods.
