In this issue we cover:
Streamlining for Qualified Practitioners
A streamlined application process for qualified people under the Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) scheme started on 15 February 2010.
Qualified applicants will need to provide evidence of their qualifications, supply details of referees and proof of identity, and complete a short, easy form.
The existing application process is still available for competent people who do not hold recognised qualifications.

- update their skills maintenance
- search the public register.
Consumers will still be able to search the register to find an LBP.

Single Site and single Design licence classes
Other streamlining measures are set for April 2010, including single Site and single Design licences, based on straight forward building categories. While LBPs can only work within their competence, the change means practitioners can gradually lift their skills and take on bigger work, without having to worry about working outside their licence or getting a new one.

Foundations licence class
A new Foundations Licence class is also set for April 2010. It will cover practitioners who construct foundations category 1 and 2 buildings.

Skills maintenance
To remain licensed, LBPs need to show they are keeping up with the changing industry. Skills maintenance is about staying on top of your game, helping you work more effectively and minimise errors and costs.

Better Building Blueprint
The LBP streamlining launch is the second of four initiatives under the Better Building Blueprint package. The blueprint is a series of measures that will make it easier and cheaper for New Zealanders to build good quality homes and buildings.
The first component, MultiProof, went live on February 1 2010. MultiProof enables the Department of Building and Housing to issue National Multi-Use Approvals for standardised building designs that are intended to be replicated. By approving each design only once, the new service will deliver time and cost savings for volume builders
