In this issue we:
We also answer some of the interesting questions you’ve been asking us over the last couple of months. Please keep them coming.
Questions and answers
Following are some of the questions practitioners have raised with the Department. If you have any questions, contact us on 0800 60 60 50 or info@dbh.govt.nz.
Q: I’m applying for Roofing License and it says I require two job records for one area of practice. But there are only four job records available in the application form and I would like to go for three areas of practice. What do I do?
A: If you would like to be assessed in more than two areas of practice, photocopy Job 3 and Job 4, including the referee pages. Two job records, two referees and four verified photos are required per area of practice.
Q: What is happening with Restricted Building Work?
A: Detailed proposals have been developed on:
- what building, design and construction work should be Restricted Building Work
- an exemption for DIYs
- streamlining the scheme.
The government is now considering these proposals.

Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ)
Recommendation: Design 1, 2, 3 and Site 1, 2, 3
A number of designers have told BRANZ that obtaining approval for Alternative Solutions for all types of projects is one of their biggest causes of frustration. At these seminars, designers and building officials will hear the same rationales for dealing with Alternative Solutions, and that should significantly ease concerns.
