Compliance Documents are reviewed and amended as required. The Department of Building and Housing may amend or replace the whole, or any part of, any Compliance Document at any time.

It’s important to keep up to date with any amendments to Compliance Documents. You can do this by:

  • Reading our publications Codewords , Building Controls Update and Code Watch.
  • Signing up for our email notification service and we’ll let you know about any amendments.
  • Subscribing to the Compliance Documents PDF service offered by Vicbooks [External website]. . Subscribers pay a year's subscription, during which time any amendments are notified to the subscriber and can be downloaded free of charge. (Vicbooks also sells Compliance Documents in hard copy.)

The process to change Compliance Documents

The process the Department uses to change Compliance Documents is:

  1. Identify the need for change.
  2. Appoint a project manager and/or establish a working group of industry representatives.
  3. Prepare information for public comment.
  4. Seek public comment.
  5. Analyse public comment.
  6. Prepare a new draft for Chief Executive’s approval.
  7. Publication.
