Consumer leaflets
The Department will be releasing a suite of leaflets outlining the Building Act 2004. Intended for consumers, building owners and builders, the leaflets will look at what the Building Act means for them and will be available from territorial authorities in March.
Building Act guidance material
Printed copies of the Building Official's Guide to the Building Act 2004 will be available in February. Intended as a day-to-day operational guide for building officials, the material focuses on:
- Project Information Memoranda
- building consents
- Code compliance certificates
- Compliance Schedules
- Building Warrants of Fitness
- Certificates of Acceptance
- Notices to Fix.

New information on consumer measures and implied warranties
Important new information on consumer protection measures under the 2004 Act is also available on the Building Act 2004 website at www.building.govt.nz/publish/363-364.php
This covers public safety in buildings (section 363), sale by residential property developers (section 364) and implied warranties.
BCA Accreditation discussion document
Proposed accreditation requirements for building consent authorities were released for public comment. The paper outlines training, timing and business process requirements for local authorities and other private organisations wanting to become building consent authorities. Submissions closed on 21 February 2005.
