Prior to being dissolved on 30 November 2004 and its functions transferring to the Department of Building and Housing, the Building Industry Authority (BIA) published a number of media releases on building controls issues.
Receivership of Nationwide Building Certifiers Group Ltd 20 Nov 2004
The Building Industry Authority is in discussion with the Receivers of Nationwide Building Certifiers Group Ltd about the implications of the receivership for Nationwide’s customers.
Update: 9 Dec 2004 - The Department of Building and Housing has reached an agreement with the receivers for Nationwide Building Certifiers Group Ltd. The Department is, on Nationwide's behalf, facilitating the transfer of files to territorial authorities. The Department received files from the receiver on 6 December 2004.

Deregistration of Approved Building Certifiers 8 Sep 2004
The Building Industry Authority today advised the deregistration of Approved Building Certifiers (ABC), following a formal finding that ABC has been negligent and was incompetent to act as a building certifier.

BIA to review private building certifier insurance 6 Apr 2004
The Building Industry Authority said today it is initiating a review of the insurance scheme for private building certifiers. The Building Act allows private building certifiers to provide building inspection and certification services. A scheme of insurance is required to be in place to cover their activities.

Timing for new timber treatment requirements 10 Mar 2004
The Building Industry Authority (BIA) has confirmed implementation arrangements for new treated timber requirements announced in December. The new requirements set out in its Acceptable Solution (known as B2/AS1 because it is the Acceptable Solution supporting Clause B2 (Durability) of the New Zealand Building Code) introduce the need for increased levels of treatment for timber used in parts of buildings most at risk of damage caused by leaking.

Another step to combat weathertightness problems 9 Feb 2004

Changes to Acceptable Solution B2/AS1 - Timber Durability 23 Dec 2003
Higher levels of timber treatment will be required in parts of buildings more at risk from leaking, the Building Industry Authority (BIA) announced today. However final changes to its Acceptable Solution, that sets out the level of treatment required of timber, are less conservative than the original proposals issued in June, Authority chairman Barry Brown said.

The Building Industry Authority (BIA) has been advised that Auckland City Council is declining consents or code compliance certificates for buildings using monolithic cladding, without cavities. The BIA has been working closely with Auckland City over recent days to better understand their policy and has issued advice to all territorial authorities regarding their responsibilities in the issuing of code compliance certificates.

Proposed changes to Building Code Clause F4 Safety from Falling 25 Aug 2003
