BC Update: No.70 Consultation on a new Acceptable Solution for Solar water heating (G12/AS2) and amendments to G12/AS1

3 September 2007: The Department welcomes comments on the proposals to amend Compliance Documents for Clause G12 Water Supplies. The changes proposed include:

  • introduction of a new Acceptable Solution for solar water heating systems (G12/AS2)
  • consequential changes to the current Acceptable Solution (G12/AS1).

This is the second public consultation on this proposal. It was first consulted on in November and December 2006, but has been significantly amended and therefore is open for further public comment.

The proposed changes would lower power and gas bills and reduce the environmental impact of homes and workplaces. They are part of the Government’s increased focus on improving energy efficiency and combating the effects of climate change.

A comprehensive review of the Building Code is underway. However, these energy efficiency proposals are measures we can take in the short to medium term to improve the energy efficiency of buildings before implementing changes from the Building Code review process.

How to comment

The consultation document can be downloaded at www.dbh.govt.nz/energy-efficiency, or a paper copy can be ordered by calling the Department on 0800 242 243.  We need to receive your comments by 26 September 2007.
