Building categories and competency assessment systems
A number of different approaches have been taken to define categories of buildings. The definition of building categories is needed for the systems required by Regulation 9 Allocating work to competent employees and contractors and Regulation 10 Competency assessment.
The Department believes it is desirable to standardise categories nationally to:
- improve consistency between BCAs
- improve consistency between competency assessment systems
- assist with the transfer of staff between BCAs.
Later this year the Department is planning to develop and provide more guidance on standard building categories and best practice competency assessment systems.
