BC Update: No.41 - IANZ appointed as Building Consent Accreditation Body
10 August 2006: The Department of Building and Housing has appointed International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) as the Building Consent Accreditation Body for the new building consent authority (BCA) accreditation scheme to be implemented under the Building Act 2004.
This appointment has been made under section 248(1)(a) of the Act.
IANZ will be responsible for undertaking accreditation assessments of those organisations wanting to undertake building consent and inspection functions under the Building Act. Such organisations are called building consent authorities (or BCAs) and for the most part they include the current territorial authorities who undertake the majority of this work, and moving forward also regional authorities in respect of dams. The Building Act also allows private organisations to apply to become BCAs.
IANZ is recognised internationally as a leader in accreditation and quality assurance services.
Note: The Department of Building and Housing is still designing the BCA accreditation regulatory scheme, including what the accreditation assessment fees will be, and should still be first point of contact regarding the BCA scheme, or in regard to the appointment of IANZ to this role.
